tropical St. John Island – the smallest and most protected of

On St. John, over half of which is a National Park, you will enter a world of unsurpassed pristine beauty. Your tour of the National Park by open-air safari includes a scenic drive along the North Shore Road, and the historic Danish Sugar Plantation at Annaberg for a self-guided tour. After the tour, there is a short drive to your lunch location. In the afternoon you will spend time at Trunk Bay, rated as the 10th most beautiful beach in the world by National Geographic, for swimming and snorkeling at the world famous underwater trail. Next on the agenda is snorkeling in sparkling clear water exploring either Treasure Point Caves or The Indians.

Nature guides kayak with you through the protected Inner Lagoon Marine Preserve as you pass in between the many beautiful mangular islands that are made up of red mangroves. Many birds nest in the trees, such as the endangered brown pelican, blue herons, night herons, egrets, yellow warblers, hummingbirds and many more. Juvenile fish hide among the many roots of the red mangrove trees. Paddlers glide in clear shallow water and often see southern sting rays and spotted eagle rays gliding beneath them with an occasional show of one jumping into the air. Arrive at the southernmost tip of St. Thomas where a fringing coral and shell rubble barrier reef divide the crystal clear waters of the lagoon and the Caribbean Sea. In 1956 Lawrence
Rockefeller, through the non-profit organization Jackson Hole Inc.,
donated 5000 acres of land on
St. John
to the National Park Service. On August 2nd of the same year United
States Congress passed legislation to establish the Virgin Islands
National Park. The legislation stipulated that the Park’s holdings on
St. John could not exceed 9,485 acres. St. John contains a total of
12,500 acres. In 1962 the boundaries of the Virgin Islands National Park
were expanded to include 5,650 acres of submerged lands and waters that
contain a significant amount of coral reefs, shorelines and marine life.
In 1978 the Park again expanded to include
Hassel Island,
a small island located in St. Thomas' Charlotte Amalie Harbor

Soar 600' above

an hour and is offered daily on the hour between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.
